According to reports from Mirror Football yesterday evening, manager Jose Mourinho will be ‘clinging onto his job’ if Chelsea lose to Liverpool in the Premier League next Saturday.

The disastrous start to what is meant to be the west London outfit’s title defence took another hit on Saturday as the Blues lost 2-1 to West Ham at Upton Park, with goals from Gary Cahill, Mauro Zarate and Andy Carroll.

That makes it five defeats in ten outings for the reigning champions, leaving them in 15th place in the Premier League with just eleven points on the board. It’s actually a worse start than what David Moyes endured during his short stint as Manchester United boss.

According to Mirror Football, the Chelsea hierarchy may not be able to stomach another defeat in such quick succession and could well take action if the club lose at home to Liverpool next Saturday.

Although results are a factor, the club are more concerned with Mourinho’s conduct. The Portuguese was sent to the stands at half-time on Saturday by referee Jon Moss and Chelsea will also face a fine for failing to control their players; Nemanja Matic saw red on the 44th minute whilst a further five players picked up yellow cards.

Former Chelsea managers Guus Hiddink and Carlo Ancelotti, who both left the club on amicable terms, are both available should Mourinho get the axe.
