According to reports from The Newcastle Chronicle yesterday afternoon, Newcastle United aren’t interested in signing Manchester United outcast Victor Valdes.

The former Barcelona No.1, who arrived at Old Trafford as a free agent in January 2015 and made two appearances at the end of last season, was transfer listed by Louis van Gaal during the summer after allegedly refusing to represent United’s U21 squad. He’s since been made to train away from the rest of the first team at Carrington.

The 33 year-old’s agent confirmed earlier this week that he’s almost certain to leave the Red Devils in January.

“He needs to go to a place he feels is right for him. He won’t be coming to Spain, unless he decides otherwise. It is obvious he must leave in January and and we will try to make sure he’s happy and feels comfortable [with the move],” representative Giles Carvalaj told Radio Marca.

Chelsea and Liverpool have both shown an interest in recent weeks but the latest reports have linked the Spain international with a shock move to Newcastle United – following Tim Krul’s season-ending injury whilst on international duty with the Netherlands.

It’s claimed Valdes is ‘open’ to joining the Tyneside club and that United are willing to cancel his contract if he agrees not to join a direct divisional rival.

But according to The Newcastle Chronicle, the Magpies aren’t interested in signing the three-time Champions League winner. They claim there has been no contact with Valdes and that the club intend to stick with Rob Elliot, Freddie Woodman and Karl Darlow during Krul’s lengthy injury lay-off.

Furthermore, the Toon have already registered the maximum 25 players in the Premier League this season – meaning they would have to sell or release a player to make room for Valdes in their official squad.
