6. Harry Kane

According to reports from The Sun yesterday afternoon, Manchester United are willing to pay a record transfer fee for an English player to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane.

The 22 year-old shot to super-stardom and the forefront of Roy Hodgson’s England plans last term after emerging from the peripheries of Tottenham’s squad to net 31 times across all competitions – including 21 goals in the Premier League to become division’s top scoring Englishman.

The 6 foot 2 front-man struggled to revive that superlative form at the start of the new season but got himself back on track last weekend with a hat-trick against Bournemouth.

And The Sun now claim long-term admirers Manchester United, who allegedly launched a £40million bid for Kane during the summer and have been linked with his services once again in recent weeks, are prepared to pay a record transfer fee for an England international – eclipsing the £49million Manchester City spent on Raheem Sterling during the summer – to bring him to Old Trafford.

It follows a barren of 238 minutes without a goal in domestic competitions, including a shock defeat to Middlesbrough by way of a penalty shootout in midweek. Strike duo Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial have scored just five times combined in the Premier League this season.

But the British tabloid also admit Tottenham are unlikely to sell a player they describe as a ‘marketing man’s dream’ due to his clean-cut image, work-ethic and connection to the local community – having been born in nearby Chingford.

Although Spurs would welcome the £50million-£60million Kane’s departure could potentially bring in, Daniel Levy sees him as the poster boy of a new era at the club as they edge towards a £400million move to a new stadium and continue their encouraging progress under Mauricio Pochettino.

Real (or Marca rather) would be happy to hear this. Both are dogs and Levy should boycott any further attempts to strip our squad of any quality we have left.
