Ayoze Perez

According to reports from The Express this evening, Manchester United are monitoring the progress of Newcastle striker Ayoze Perez.

The 22 year-old moved to St. James’ Park from Tenerife in a £1.5million deal last summer after netting 17 goals in 50 league appearances for the Spanish outfit, allegedly snubbing interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona in the process.

He’s gone on to bag eight goals in 42 Premier League outings for the struggling Magpies, a return which perhaps doesn’t do justice to the potential the Spaniard has shown during his spell in the English top flight.

The 5 foot 11 forward was linked with no less than six clubs during the summer transfer window, including Premier League trio Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham, and The Express allege he’s still very much in Spurs’ thoughts.

Citing reports from The Newcastle Chronicle, however, they also claim Manchester United are monitoring Perez’ progress.

The forward has a known fan in former Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson, according to reports from The Daily Mail in December.
