Tim Sherwood

According to reports from The Birmingham Mail this morning, former Liverpool and Manchester United gaffers Brendan Rodgers and David Moyes are in the frame to take Tim Sherwood’s job at Aston Villa.

Sherwood guided the Birmingham outfit to safety at the end of last season after taking over from Paul Lambert in February. They won five of 13 Premier League fixtures under the 46 year-old and also reached the 2015 Fa Cup final, only to lose 4-0 to Arsenal.

But Sherwood’s struggled to get full value from the £53million Villa spent during the summer, on signings such as Idrissa Gueye, Jordan Amavi and Jordan Ayew, with the Midlands club currently 18th in the table – taking just four points from their first eight games.

According to The Birmingham Mail, the retired midfielder is now the favourite as the next Premier League manager to lose his job, with Brendan Rodgers and David Moyes in the frame to replace him.

Rodgers left Liverpool just over a week ago following a 1-1 draw in the Merseyside derby and on Thursday evening was replaced by former Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp. He is currently without a job.

David Moyes, meanwhile, has been attempting to right the wrongs of his ten-month Manchester United spell at Real Sociedad, who he joined last November. But his time at Anoeta could well be coming to an end, having won just 11 of the 38 games he’s been in charge for. They’re currently in 16th place.

Both have been mooted as potential Sherwood successors but the former England man will be given two more games to prove himself – according to Mirror Football. Villa face Premier League champions Chelsea on Saturday and Swansea City the week after.
