According to reports from talkSPORT this afternoon, former Arsenal and Manchester United star Robin van Persie could be in line for a shock move to Barcelona in the January transfer window.
The Netherlands’ all-time leading goalscorer netted 144 goals in 280 appearances throughout his Premier League career, winning consecutive Golden Boots and lifting the title with the Red Devils in 2013.
He left Old Trafford for Fernerbahce during the summer but has endured a difficult start to life in the Turkish top flight, starting just three league fixtures so far despite a decent return of four goals in ten outings across all competitions.
According to talkSPORT, who cite Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, the 32 year-old could now jump ship as early as January with Barcelona reportedly interested in offering him an escape route.
The European champions are keen to sign reinforcements once their transfer embargo is lifted in the new year and sporting director Roberto Fernandez allegedly watched van Persie in action against the Czech Republic on Tuesday evening.
Oranje missed out on Euro 2016 qualification in a 3-2 defeat, but RVP impressed Fernandez by scoring in the 83rd minute.
