Everton vs Man United: three key players set to return from injury

John Stones (2)

According to reports from The Guardian yesterday morning, Everton have received a huge injury boost ahead of their Premier League clash with Manchester United.

Coveted centre-half John Stones has missed the Toffees last two games with a knee injury and was resultantly unable to play for England during the international break, but manager Roberto Martinez expects him to be fit for Manchester United’s visit to Goodison Park on Saturday.

He told the club’s website; “We have still got three very important days ahead of that fixture in terms of preparation so we’ll get a better idea on Friday of where John is. I would say medically he is ready now. He’s been joining the group and from a medical point of view I don’t think there is a concern or worry.”

Likewise, right-back Seamus Coleman could also make his first Everton appearance for over a month after playing the full 90 minutes in Poland’s 2-1 over Republic of Ireland on Sunday evening. He had previously been sidelined by a hamstring complaint.

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney is expected to recover from an ankle injury in time to face his former club, having sat out of England’s victories against Estonia and Lithuania that saw them qualify for Euro 2016 with a perfect record.

However, experienced midfielders Bastian Schweinsteiger and Michael Carrick are both huge doubts after picking up injuries on duty with Germany and the Three Lions respectively.

Likewise, despite Marcos Rojo withdrawing from the Argentina squad to regain fitness after missing four fixtures with a hamstring problem, United are yet to confirm whether he’ll be available for their visit to Merseyside.

That could result in winger Ashley Young starting at left-back for a second consecutive Premier League fixture, with resident No.3 Luke Shaw ruled out for the majority of the season.

I thought you said “injury boost”. If Rooney is going to be fit that’s only an injury boost for Everton. An injury boost for United fans is if he’s going to be out for longer. Come on Christy, stop giving us false hope!
