According to reports from The Daily Star this morning, Chelsea and Manchester United have both ‘made contact’ with the agent of Antoine Griezmann over a potential January move.

The France international earned a £24million move to Atletico Madrid in summer 2014 after playing an intrinsic role in Real Sociededad’s rise from the second division to the Champions League and has since emerged as one of the most potent forwards in Europe.

Indeed, Griezmann netted 25 times across all competitions last term and has started the current campaign equally brightly, bagging four goals and two assists in La Liga alongside two goals and one assist in the Champions League.

The 24 year-old was linked with Arsenal, Manchester United and Real Madrid earlier this month whilst Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho reportedly ‘insisted’ last week that the club launch a bid following the west London outfit’s poor start to the season.

But according to The Star, who cite Spanish outlet Fichajes, the Blues and the Red Devils have now accelerated their interest by ‘making contract’ with the winger-forward’s agent. The British tabloid rate Griezmann at around £40million, but his release clause is believed to be just shy of £57million.
