According to reports from The Daily Mail yesterday afternoon, Chelsea and Manchester United are both targeting Red Star Belgrade’s midfield prodigy Marko Grujic.
Measuring in at a whopping 6 foot 3, the 19 year-old has been compared to the Blues’ midfield monolith Nemanja Matic and featured prominently as Serbia won the U20 World Cup in New Zealand during the summer.
According to The Mail, the Premier League champions, who are well connected with Red Star, have been monitoring Grujic’s progress for some time.
But Manchester United sent scouts to run the rule over the U21 international during the Belgrade derby last Saturday and were certainly impressed; Grujic opened the scoring in a 3-0 win over FK Rad Beograd with a 30-yard piledriver.
The Red Devils view him as a potential successor to Bastian Schweinsteiger and Michael Carrick at the base of their midfield, whilst Chelsea are always looking to expand their farming out operation – with 34 players currently on loan at other clubs.
It’s believed Red Star want around £3million for the teenage midfielder.
chel can ve players but which holding midfield player and no.10, including ivanovics form is the prob. A back line without ivan, while fabregas and matic play as last season pedro, hazard or oscar rotate in the wings and central attack with willian on right wing can turn glory back.
