Lavezzi

According to reports from talkSPORT yesterday, Arsenal have made a last-ditch attempt to sign PSG winger-forward Ezequiel Lavezzi.

The Argentina international has bagged 33 goals in 139 appearances for the Parisians, helping fire them to three consecutive Ligue 1 titles, but his game-time has steadily declined over the last few years – receiving just 19 starts in Ligue 1 last term and only two from a possible eight this season.

The 30 year-old has already suggested he’ll leave Parc de Princes at the end of the season upon the expiration of his current contract and reports earlier this week claimed he’s already agreed a free transfer to European champions Barcelona.

But it seems nothing is set in stone just yet and according to talkSPORT, who cite Italian publication CalcioMercato, long-term admirers Arsenal have ‘made an eleventh hour bid’ to try and prize Lavezzi away from the Nou Camp outfit’s clutches.

Liverpool have also been consistently linked with the South American over the last few years and as recently as September, with some sources claiming they’ve already ‘made contact‘ over a potential move in January.

However, their interest has gone unmentioned by talkSPORT and its believed the Gunners are keen on a bosman move for next summer, rather than making a bid for Lavezzi in the new year.
