Anthony Modeste

According to reports from Espiritu Deportivo via The Metro, Arsenal want to add Cologne star Anthony Modeste to their strike-force in January.

The 27 year-old has prior experience in the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers. The Frenchman signed on loan from Bordeaux in January 2012 (with the option of a permanent move) but managed just five Premier League appearances as the Ewood Park outfit plummeted out of the top flight. His final appearance was a sending off in a 3-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion.

The 6 foot 1 striker has revived his career somewhat since then, however. He bagged 19 goals in 55 Bundesliga appearances during two seasons at Hoffenheim and has started his Cologne career in even stronger form, netting six times from nine league outings since moving to RhienEnergieStadion in June.

And according to Spanish publication Espiritu Deportivo, Modeste’s impressive form has caught Arsenal’s attention after missing out on their priority strike targets during the summer – namely PSG’s Edinson Cavani and Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.

Modeste represents a significantly cheaper alternative, although Cologne will be reluctant to sell after signing the former Nice, Angers and Bastia man just a matter of months ago.
