According to reports from The Daily Star this afternoon, Bayer Leverkusen may be forced to sell in-demand midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu if a potential suitor meets their £29million valuation.
The 21 year-old, dubbed ‘the new Mesut Ozil’, is one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting prospects and particularly famed for his proficiency from dead ball situations; a trait mostly responsible for his career return of 46 goals and 36 assists in 156 appearances – including five goals and four assists in 16 outings this season.
Manchester United are keen admirers of the Turkish international and reportedly saw a £25million bid for him rejected by Leverkusen on summer deadline day, whilst reports in September revealed he’s also been on Arsenal’s radar for some time.
And in a significant boost to the transfer efforts of the Premier League duo, The Daily Star claim Leverkusen may now be forced to sell if a club meets their £29million valuation of the attacking midfielder.
Club CEO Michael Schade told German publication SportBild; “We want to keep Hakan, but with us there is a pain threshold.”
It’s believed that ‘pain threshold’ is around the £29million mark – a fee Manchester United are already considering paying according to reports from September.
