Cristiano Ronaldo

According to reports from The Express yesterday evening, PSG saw a £110million bid for Cristiano Ronaldo rejected by Real Madrid on summer deadline day.

The former Manchester United star fired his way to three Premier League titles, the 2008 Champions League title and his first Ballon d’Or during a six year spell with the Red Devils, amassing 118 goals in 292 appearances across all competitions.

He’s been persistently linked with a return to Old Trafford since joining the Bernabeu ranks in 2009 and indeed during this summer’s transfer window, with Manchester Evening News reporting on a potential bid in July amid an apparent bust-up with fresh managerial appointment Rafa Benitez.

Whilst United are believed to have focused predominantly on Karim Benzema, Raphael Varane and Gareth Bale, however, it appears Champions League rivals PSG were pursuing the Portugal international until the final hour.

According to The Express, who cite Portuguese publication Globe Esporte, the Ligue 1 champions launched a £110million bid on summer deadline day – which would have made Ronaldo the most expensive player in world football for the second time in his career – only to see it rejected by Real Madrid.

It corresponds with reports from June, claiming the Parisians have identified the three-time Ballon d’Or winner as a long-term replacement for ageing talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
