Goalkeeper - David De Gea

According to reports from Mirror Football this afternoon, Manchester United have made David De Gea the best paid goalkeeper in world football.

The Spain international was tipped to join Real Madrid for much of the summer as his Old Trafford contract entered it’s final twelve months. But a deal worth £29million and including Keylor Navas in exchange collapsed at the last minute as the required paperwork missed the La Liga window’s transfer deadline at 11pm on August 31st.

It’s lead to two separate accounts of what happened on the final day of the transfer window and fears that Los Blancos could try to sign the 24 year-old on a free transfer next summer.

But in a surprising and swift twist of events, De Gea signed a new contract with United this afternoon, tying him down to four more years at Old Trafford.

And according to Mirror Football, the new deal has made the Red Devils’ 2015 Player of the Year the best paid goalkeeper in world football with a contract worth £200k per-week.

Having now ended speculation over his future with United, De Gea could make his first league appearance of the season against Liverpool this Saturday.
