According to reports from Inside Spanish Football and Here Is The City, Sevilla midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak is set to sign a contract extension at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan – but his €30million release clause will not increase.
The Poland international was in superlative form last season, averaging 3.3 tackles, 3 interceptions and 3.4 successful aerial duels per match to earn a place in La Liga’s Team of the Year, whilst helping Sevilla claim a second consecutive Europa League title.
Manchester United and Arsenal were both linked with the 25 year-old throughout the summer, with the Gunners particularly keen to activate his £21.4million release clause amid their search for a holding midfielder.
But Krychowiak has since revealed that he decided to stay with the Spanish outfit due to coach Unai Emery, who has guided them to back-to-back trophies in Europe since his appointment in 2013.
He recently told reporters; “Unai’s decision to stay was crucial for me. I wanted to form part of his project and only his, nobody else’s. If he had left to go to another club it’s probable I would have seriously considered doing the same. Emery is part of my success. He believes in me. We are twin souls, we are a perfect fit, our philosophies are very similar.”
Sevilla intend to reward Krychowiak’s form and loyalty with a contract extension, according to reports from Estadio Deportivo, that will increase his salary, his bonus package and his stay with Los Rojiblancos until 2019.
But the good news for the 6 foot 1 midfielder’s Premier League suitors is that his aforementioned release clause will remain unchanged.
