Premier League side Leicester City have secured the signing of Switzerland captain Gökhan Inler from Napoli for an estimated £5million, according to the Guardian.

The Foxes have capped off a successful start to the league season, which began with a thrilling 4-2 home victory over Sunderland, by fighting off the advances of Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04 and Süper Lig side Besiktas J.K. for the services of the 31-year-old midfielder.

Despite the German and Turkish sides’ participation in the Europa League group stages, Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri was able to convince the ex-Udinese man to venture to the King Power stadium for his first taste of Premier League football.

The experience and leadership of Inler, who with 84 international caps is the sixth-highest appearance maker for the Swiss national team, are seen by the Foxes boss as a replacement for the “character, tactical knowledge, and intelligence” of the departed Esteban Cambiasso, whose talents were key to Leicester’s successful battle against relegation last season.

Inler is expected to join up with the first team in the next few days, but will not be ready for the East Midlands side’s trip to Upton Park on Saturday to face West Ham.
