4. Gonzalo Higuain

According to reports from The Express yesterday evening, Chelsea have joined the race to sign Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain.

The 27 year-old boasts a prolific return of 217 goals in 459 appearances throughout his spells with River Plate, Real Madrid, Napoli and the Argentine national team – including 29 goals for Partenopei across all competitions last season.

Arsenal and Manchester United have both been linked with the Albiceleste front-man this summer, due to their shared need for more options up front and the Naples outfit’s failure to qualify for the Champions League at the end of last season.

The Premier League duo received a boost in their efforts to sign the 6 foot striker last week as he refused a one-year contract extension at Stadio San Paolo.

But according to The Express, Premier League champions Chelsea have now joined the race, following reports claiming Higuain has informed officials that he wants to leave the Serie A club. The potential move would see him link up with Jose Mourinho once again – a manager he served under for three years at the Bernabeu.

However, Napoli have consistently insisted any potential suitor will have to activate Higuain’s £67million release clause.
