Nicolas Otamendi (Valencia)

According to reports from The Daily Star this afternoon, Manchester United are on the verge of announcing a £35million deal for Valencia centre-back Nicolas Otamendi.

The Argentina international was nothing short of sensational for the Mestalla outfit last season, netting six times in 35 La Liga appearances whilst averaging 2.9 tackles, 3.1 interceptions, 7.3 clearances and 3.5 successful aerial duels per match.

That form has seen him repeatedly linked with Manchester United throughout the summer, whilst local rivals Manchester City are also said to be interested in the 6 foot centre-half. It’s claimed both clubs have already held talks with his agent – the renowned Jorge Mendes.

But according to The Daily Star, United are now on the verge of announcing Otamendi as their latest signing. Citing Spanish outlet SillasGol, they claim journalist Nacho Cotino has seen legal documents and tax statements indicating a deal is nearly complete, assumed to be the value of the former Porto star’s £35million release clause.
