Nicolas Otamendi

According to reports from Sky Sports News yesterday afternoon, Manchester United are ‘not interested’ in signing Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi.

The Argentina international was nothing short of sensational for the Mestalla outfit last season, netting six times in 35 La Liga appearances whilst averaging 2.9 tackles, 3.1 interceptions, 7.3 clearances and 3.5 successful aerial duels per match.

That’s seen him consistently linked to Manchester City and Manchester United throughout the summer, who are both in the market for a new centre-half.

Earlier this week, Spanish journalist Nacho Cotino claimed to have seen ‘legal documents‘ confirming Manchester United were about to sign the 27 year-old, whose contract includes a £35million release clause.

But according to Sky Sports, United are ‘not interested’ in a deal for the 6 foot defender – and in fact never have been.

That leaves City a free run at Otamendi – with fellow admirers Real Madrid expected to drop out of the race when Sergio Ramos pens extended terms at the Bernabeu in the next few days.

The Citizens failed in their pursuit of Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin earlier this summer and the Valencia man represents a more than adequate alternative.
