Mario Gotze

According to reports from The Express this morning, Bayern Munich hero Giovane Elber believes Arsenal and Manchester United target Mario Gotze is unhappy at the Allianz Arena.

The attacking midfielder is best famed for his superb winning volley in last summer’s World Cup final, securing Germany a 1-0 victory over Argentina in extra time.

But at club level, Gotze has struggled since swapping Borussia Dortmund for Bayern in summer 2013. Despite recording 30 goals in 93 appearances across all competitions, manager Pep Guardiola has often excluded him from the Bavarians’ most important fixtures – particularly in the Champions League.

The Gotze camp have been surprisingly vocal about the situation this summer, resulting in reports of rumoured interest from Premier League trio Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.

Indeed, agent Volker Struth claimed last month that Guardiola has ‘destroyed’ his client, whilst the 23 year-old has discussed a breakdown in communication between himself and the former Barcelona boss and hinted this future at the Allianz Arena remains undecided.

And according to The Express, retired striker Giovane Elber, who fired the Bavarians to the 2001 Champions League title, believes Gotze is unhappy at Bayern Munich.

He said; “There is a huge difference between how he played for Dortmund and how he plays for Bayern. You play different when you feel happy somewhere. Everything seems to go automatically then. When you are unhappy somewhere, you put too much thought into everything you do. And things simply don’t work out then.

“I don’t know how his relationship with Pep Guardiola is, but Gotze looks a bit like a Brazilian to me. You have to flatter him and boost his confidence. You have to tell him that you are there for him to help him.

“It is hard when there are already doubts before the season has even started. Bayern should back him rather than sell him,” he added.

The British tabloid rate Gotze at around£40million – and also document Serie A champions Juventus as potential suitors.
