According to reports from Mirror Football yesterday evening, Manchester City are preparing a £40million bid for ex-Chelsea star Kevin De Bruyne.

The Belgium international failed to make the first team grade during his two years at Stamford Bridge, instead finding himself loaned out to Genk and Werder Bremen.

But he’s proved an absolute revelation since signing for Wolfsburg for an £18million fee during the January 2014 transfer window, finishing last season with 10 goals and 20 assists in 34 Bundesliga appearances.

Manchester City hope to bring him back to the Premier League this summer and agent Patrick de Koster has already admitted to receiving ‘informal contact‘ from the Etihad outfit.

Die Wolfe, on the other hand, want to tie the 23 year-old down to an improved contract whilst Director of Sport Klaus Allofs has insisted he won’t be allowed to leave this summer.

But that hasn’t nullified City’s interest in De Bruyne according to Mirror Football, who claim Manuel Pellegrini’s side are on the verge of launching a £40million bid.

PSG and Bayern Munich are seen as their main competitors in the race to sign the attacking midfielder, but both are yet to make a formal offer.
