According to reports from The Express this morning, Chelsea’s attempts to sign Augsburg starlet Abdul Rahman Baba have been made significantly easier by Juventus’ deal for Atletico Madrid left-back Guilherme Siqueira.

The 21 year-old has just come to the end of a real breakthrough campaign at the SGL arena, claiming four assists in 31 appearances whilst averaging the second-most tackles per match (3.5) of any player in the Bundesliga.

The Ghana international has resultantly been linked with a host of top European clubs clubs, including Manchester City, Manchester United and Real Madrid in May, Arsenal and Chelsea in June, and Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Inter Milan and Roma earlier this month.

But Stamford Bridge has been mooted as Abdul Rahman Baba’s next destination for some time, with some reports even claiming they’ve already agreed personal terms with the 5 foot 11 left-back.

And their chances of signing the former Asante Kotoko star have vastly improved by Juventus agreeing a contract with the Mattress Makers’ Guilherme Siqueira – a three-year deal believed to be worth £1.8million per-season.

Not only have the Champions League finalists now dropped out of the race to sign Abdul Rahman Baba, but their acquisition of the ex-Benfica man has further allowed Atletico to re-sign wantaway Blues defender Filipe Luis as a direct replacement.

The Brazil international agreed to return to Vincente Calderon last week but a breakdown in negotiations between Siquiera and Juventus had put the move in jeopardy.
