Gonzalo Higuain

According to reports from The Express this morning, Arsenal are preparing a £30million bid for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain.

The Gunners came close to signing the Argentina international from Real Madrid in summer 2013 until a lengthy dispute ensued over his price-tag, paving the way for a move to Serie A instead.

The 27 year-old has since bagged 53 goals in 102 appearances for the Naples outfit, helping them to the 2014 Coppa Italia last season.

But he’s widely expected to leave the club in the coming transfer window following their failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League, having finished the season in fifth place.

As This Is Futbol revealed last month, Arsenal and Liverpool have both been linked to the striker, whilst The Express also moot Manchester United as potential suitors. Higuain would be a direct replacement for Robin van Persie, who The Guardian claim is on the verge of moving to Lazio.

According to The Express, who cite Italian paper La Gazzetta dello Sport, Arsenal are now readying a £30million bid for the former River Plate youngster, having held talks with Higuain’s brother and agent Nicolas.

They may have to up the ante to sign the 6 foot 1 striker this summer, however. As This Is Futbol revealed last week, Napoli are demanding £42million for their top scorer.
