Edin Dzeko

According to reports from Mirror Football yesterday evening, Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko has rejected the opportunity to join Liverpool this summer.

The Bosnian international has amassed 71 goals in 185 appearances since arriving at the Etihad in January 2011, despite often succumbing to the role of supersub, and played a pivotal role in the Citizens claiming the 2013/14 Premier League title in the absence of first-choice centre-forward Sergio Aguero.

But the 6 foot 4 striker’s Etihad days appear to be numbered; he’s now 29 years of age, and Manuel Pellegrini’s side signed a long-term replacement during the January transfer window in £25million forward Wilfried Bony.

And according to Mirror Football, Man City have now attempted to offload the former Wolfsburg star to Liverpool, in a cash-plus-player deal that would see Anfield contract rebel Raheem Sterling go the other way.

But Dzeko has apparently rejected a Merseyside switch – which could be great news for two other Premier League clubs. As This Is Futbol revealed on Saturday, Arsenal are reportedly considering £15million bid for the Etihad outcast, whilst Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is a long-term admirer.

Whether the Blues are still in the market for front-men, however, having all but officially confirmed their loan move for Monaco record-signing Radamel Falcao – as reported by BBC Sport – remains to be seen.

It’s believed City’s valuation of Dzeko is currently £20million.
