According to report from The Guardian yesterday evening, Manchester United have joined the race to sign Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling.
As This Is Futbol revealed yesterday, four clubs are currently competing for the England international’s signature – Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester City – amid rumours he intends to force his way out of Anfield this summer.
It follows a lengthy contract dispute in which Sterling has already turned down an extension worth over £100k per-week, and the 20 year-old is now expected to inform chief executive Ian Ayre that he wants to leave in the coming window.
According to The Guardian, Manchester United have registered their interest in the 2014 Golden Boy winner and are prepared to offer him £150k per-week – five times his current salary on Merseyside.
But that would make Sterling the first player to move between the two great north-west rivals since Phil Chisnal all the way back in 1964, so whether Liverpool would accept a United bid – even if it meets their £50million valuation – remains to be seen.
