Central Midfield - Ilkay Gundogan

According to reports from Manchester Evening News this morning, Manchester United are set for a £200million spending spree this summer, after agreeing a deal to sign PSV star Memphis Depay – as BBC Sport revealed yesterday afternoon.

Egged on by the Dutchman’s signature, the Red Devils are now targeting Southampton starlet Nathaniel Clyne, Netherlands international Kevin Strootman, PSG front-man Edinson Cavani, Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale and Borussia Dortmund duo Ilkay Gundogan and Mats Hummels.

The mooted £200m fee for all would eclipse the current record spend in a single transfer window – Real Madrid’s lucrative summer 2009, where they signed Cristiano Ronaldo from the Red Devils and Kaka from AC Milan.

This morning’s news will be of particular disappointment to Chelsea. They were strongly linked with Gundogan by The Express last month, whilst they’re also believed to be in the race for the signature of former Tottenham talisman Gareth Bale – as claimed by Mirror Football.
