According to reports from The Express this morning, Barcelona star Dani Alves has rejected a contract extension at the Nou Camp.
The Brazil international is widely regarded as one of the top right-backs in world football, with penetrative runs from defence becoming a defining feature of a Barcelona side that are now on course for a third Champions League title since his £23million move from Sevilla summer 2008.
The 32 year-old has been in talks to extend his Nou Camp contract past the end of the current campaign for quite some time. In April, his agent confirmed Barcelona had put an offer on the table – as reported by This Is Futbol.
But it appears Alves has now rejected the offer – making the Champions League final against Juventus in June his ultimate act for the Catalan outfit.
And recent speculation suggests the South American will most likely move to the Premier League; as This Is Futbol revealed last month, Liverpool and Manchester United are considered to be his more prominent suitors. The Reds need a replacement for the bosman-bound Glen Johnson, whilst United are expected to sell Rafael this summer.
Alves’ agent in March, however, claimed he’d received offers from seven different clubs – as reported by The Daily Mail.
