According to reports from The Metro yesterday evening, Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has admitted he wants to ply his trade with an English side competing in Champions League next season.
The France international has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most formidable enforcers since the Saints’ top flight ascension in summer 2012, this season averaging the second-most tackles per match, 3.7, of any player in the division.
As This Is Futbol revealed earlier this month, the 6 foot 2 midfielder is currently stalling on a five-year contract extension at St. Mary’s, following Ronald Koeman’s admission in April that the 25 year-old could force a move away this summer.
As This Is Futbol revealed last week, Arsenal and Manchester United are considered to be Schneiderlin’s likeliest suitors ahead of the summer window, whilst Southampton have placed a £25million price-tag on the former Strasbourg youngster.
And reports from The Metro, who quote French Radio Station RMC, suggest a move to either the Emirates or Old Trafford is the most plausible scenario.
“Yes, I think my decision is made,” the Saints star told RMC.
“The goal is to stay in England, it is a championship that I like and where I have a lot of fun. If I leave Southampton it is for a club that plays better than the Europa League.
“The Champions League is my goal. If I leave Southampton it will be for a club in the Champions League,” he added.
