According to reports from The Metro this afternoon, manager Carlo Ancelotti has denied Real Madrid are courting the signature of Manchester United No.1 David De Gea.
The Spain international has been in fantastic form this season – recognised by his nominations for both the PFA Young Player of the Year and PFA Player of the Year awards yesterday evening.
With just a year remaining on his Red Devils contract, it’s widely assumed the European Champions will attempt to prize him away from Old Trafford this summer.
But Ancelotti has insisted otherwise, informing reporters; “I see myself here next season with [Iker] Casillas. The three best goalkeepers in the world are at Real Madrid and we have never spoken about signing a goalkeeper.”
Interestingly enough, it follows reports last week claiming De Gea, aged 24, would reject a summer move to the Bernabeu if long-term No.1 Iker Casillas was still at the club – as This Is Futbol revealed on Saturday.
Casillas’ reputation as ‘St. Iker’ has caused problems for a number of Real Madrid goalkeepers over the last few years. Despite often showing superior form to the 2010 World Cup winner, Diego Lopez was sold to AC Milan at the start of the season, whilst Costa Rica international Keylor Navas has gone on to make just four league starts since joining Los Blancos in the summer.
