According to reports from Mirror Football yesterday evening, Liverpool could make a surprise move for Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson this summer – who his currently on loan at West Ham.

The 23 year-old moved to the Emirates from Charlton Athletic in summer 2011 and despite impressing on occasion has struggled to cement himself a regular first-team role – even amid the departure of Bacary Sagna to Manchester City last summer.

He’s impressed on loan at Upton Park this season, however, making 23 appearances to aid the club’s mission of a top-half finish in the Premier League whilst averaging 1.3 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, and 3.3 clearances per match.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will almost certainly be in the market for a new No.2 this summer with Glen Johnson’s contract finally coming to an end. He’s currently deputised by loan signing Javier Manquillo, who has struggled for form since arriving from Atletico Madrid in the summer. According to Mirror Football, Jenkinson has emerged as a surprise candidate.

Their main rivals in acquiring the defender, however, will be West Ham. After a spate of good performances, proving he’s particularly suited to the Hammers’ hardworking style, they want to sign the one-cap England international on a permanent deal.
