Alex Sandro

According to reports from The Telegraph this morning, Manchester giants Man City and Man United will go head-to-head in a battle for Porto defender Alex Sandro this summer.

Both the Red Devils and the Citizens have struggled at No.3 this term; the former, yet to see the best of  £27million signing Luke Shaw, the latter, in desperate need of some youth, with Gael Clichy and Alekandar Kolorov both 29 years of age.

Meanwhile, Sandro, aged 24, has emerged as one of the most effective left-backs in Europe over the last few years, this term averaging an imperious 4.1 tackles and 4.5 interceptions per match during Porto’s Champions League campaign.

In typical Selecao style, the Brazil international is also renowned for his abilities going forward, and the combination of both has seen him claim six caps for his country since 2011.

The Telegraph claim the Old Trafford outfit are the latest party to join the race for Sandro’s signature.

He’s been on City’s radar for some time, whilst Real Madrid are also considered to be potential suitors – but chances of him joining the same club as Marcelo, currently Brazil’s first-choice left-back, seem somewhat unlikely.
