According to reports from The Daily Star this afternoon, former Liverpool and Chelsea star Raul Meireles could make a shock return to the Premier League this summer, with Everton allegedly courting his services.
The Portugal international had a short-lived but relatively successful Premier League career, winning the PFA Fans’ Player of the Year award in 2011 during his only season with Liverpool before lifting the 2012 Champions League title during his solitary campaign with Chelsea – who then sold him to Fenerbahce just months later.
He’s spent the last three seasons with the Turkish outfit, winning the Turkish Cup in 2013 and last term’s Super Lig title, but is expected to leave at the end of the campaign as his contract enters its ultimate year.
According to The Daily Star, the Goodison outfit are monitoring the 32 year-old’s situation and may launch a bid in the summer. Long-term interest from West Ham, however, who were strongly linked to Meireles last summer, could complicate any potential deal.
