According to reports from The Metro this morning, Arsenal have made an offer for Real Madrid defender Alvaro Arbeloa – who is also believed to be on Liverpool’s radar.

The Spain international has been part of the Bernabeu furniture for some time, representing them at C, B and first team level to make 303 appearances for the European Champions in total.

He’s spent brief spells away from the club, moving to Deportivo in 2006 and Liverpool in 2007 before returning to the Spanish capital in 2009 – since becoming a mainstay in the senior squad.

Now 32 years of age however, Arbeloa’s influence is beginning to wain, with the in-form Dani Carvajal taking the Spaniard’s customary right-back berth for much of the current season.

But highly versatile and well experienced, boasting a Champions League title with Real and the 2010 World Cup with Spain, Arbeloa’s availability has attracted interest from Arsenal, former club Liverpool and Serie A side Napoli.

According to the Metro, it would take only around £3.6million to sign the veteran defender this summer – and the Gunners have already approached Real Madrid with an offer.
