As This Is Futbol informed you earlier this week, Arsenal and Manchester United are both chasing the signature of Borussia Dortmund star Ilkay Gundogan – with some sources claiming he’s ‘expecting’ a move to Old Trafford this summer.
The German international was one of the stars of the Black-Yellows’ 2012/13 campaign which saw them launch a surprise march to the Champions League final – only to be beaten by Bundesliga title rivals Bayern Munich.
Now edging upon the final year of his current contract, the midfielder looks set to leave Westfalen this summer -especially after yesterday’s revelations of manager Jurgen Klopp resigning.
But according to reports from The Metro this morning, yet another Premier League party has registered their interest in Gundogan – reigning champions Manchester City.
An Etihad reshuffle is widely expected this summer, as a consequence of the Citizens failing to defend the English crown for a second time and plummeting out of the Champions League to Barcelona. In fact, some have speculated Klopp will be brought in as manager Manuel Pellegrini’s replacement – including BBC Sport.
Such an appointment would completely change the dynamic of the race for Gundogan. But currently, Manchester United remain the front-runners.
