According to reports from The Daily Mail this afternoon, Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan expects to join Manchester United this summer in a £15million deal.
The German international was one of the stars of the Black-Yellows’ 2012/13 campaign, which saw them launch a surprise march to the Champions League final – only to be beaten by Bundesliga title rivals Bayern Munich.
The tenacious midfielder has struggled since with a back injury, making only 18 league appearances during the last two campaigns. But he’s returned to first team action this season and continued to impress, triggering interest from Arsenal and Atletico Madrid – as reported by The Metro last month.
Now, however, The Daily Mail claims Gundogan expects to complete a move to Old Trafford this summer, with Louis van Gaal also keen on team-mate Mats Hummels.
With just a year remaining on the 23 year-old’s contract and Dortmund now unlikely to qualify for the Champions League after spending much of the season flirting with relegation, it’s believed United could snap him up for as little as £15million.
