Godfred DonsahWe’re still a million miles away from the summer transfer market, but it looks like Premier League clubs are already starting to put plans in place for when the window re-opens. After all, more or less every manager will be all too aware of the weaknesses within their squad at this stage in the season. I’m sure they’ll be desperate to do something about it.

Arsenal have plenty of midfielders within their squad, but it does strike me that they’re lacking in a certain type of player. They’ve got plenty of technically gifted footballers and accurate passers, but how many willing runners do they have? How many battlers do they have? How many players do they have in this area of the pitch that are ready and willing to put in a shift in every game?

This strikes me as one of Arsenal’s key weaknesses. Perhaps this is something Arsene Wenger will look to rectify in the summer transfer window?

It certainly looks as if this is the case. According to Cagliari president Thomas Giulini, Arsenal have been keeping tabs on their midfield prodigy, Godfred Donsah:

‘Manchester City are interested, but Arsenal scouts were at the game against Inter to watch him. My intention is to keep him for at least one more year. Cagliari need to remain in Serie A so we can continue to help these young players grow. It would be beneficial for Donsah’s development to remain at Cagliari for another season.’ (Source: The Metro)

The 18-year-old talent has already been labelled ‘the next Michael Essien’. That should heap a whole bunch of pressure onto his shoulders, shouldn’t it?

He’s a diligent presence in the centre of the park, who chases everything down and harries opponents whenever possible. When he’s on the ball he moves quickly, isn’t afraid to take people on and can make things happen in the final third.

He wouldn’t be a typical Arsene Wenger signing, but he could prove to be a good one.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal consider swooping in for Godfred Donsah?
