DepayIt’s hard to believe that a signing that cost as much as £59.9m could fail to make a major impact in the Premier League. For one reason or another, however, that’s proven to be the case for Manchester United star, Angel Di Maria.

The Argentine ace was a big hit for Real Madrid, where he was known as ‘The Assist King’. He partnered up well with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, created loads of opportunities in the final third and converted a few of them too.

Unfortunately, things haven’t been quite so easy since his move to the Premier League. As his team has struggled to produce the goods, so has he. Fans and pundits have started to turn against him.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Manchester United are considering ‘putting’ Angel Di Maria out of ‘his misery’, by selling him this summer. It’s thought that Paris Saint Germain could still be interested in signing the Argentine winger.

Whilst it’s unfortunate to see a Manchester United player flop, it does look like the club are already considering potential replacements. The aforementioned source claims that The Red Devils are hoping to complete a £20m deal for PSV’s wing-wizard, Memphis Depay.

The Dutchman’s ability on the ball (particularly in the final third) and his youth, has seen him transform into one of world football’s sought after players. Last season he scored 14 goals in 43 performances for PSV. This year, he’s played 27 games and he’s managed to find the back of the net 22 times. He’s seriously effective.

There’s a good chance that he’d do a better job for Manchester United than Angel Di Maria is currently doing. I’d certainly be surprised if he did any worse, despite the discrepancy between the two player’s price-tags.

Louis Van Gaal already has a relationship with Memphis Depay, thanks to his time as manager of the Netherlands. Let’s hope that he’s able to capitalise on this and close a deal with PSV.

What’s your take? Would you trade Angel Di Maria for Memphis Depay?
