For a good year or so, The Red Devils have continued to pick up links to Juventus’s star midfielder, Arturo Vidal. The Chilean ace is highly regarded in Serie A and on the international scene. With Manchester United lacking industry in the centre of the park, the club’s interest isn’t surprising in the least.
A few days ago, Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal told the Press that he’ll be looking to sign somebody in this area of the pitch next summer (why didn’t he bring anybody in during the January transfer window?). He also described the kind of player he was after:
“I am looking for balance and I need balance in midfield. When I play with [Adnan] Januzaj and [Angel] Di Maria in the midfield positions, then you need a certain balance for that kind of creative player. So, when you have these creative players, and also [Radamel] Falcao and [Robin] van Persie are creative players, then you have four creative players and you have to look for balance in your team.” (Source: The BBC)
If Van Gaal’s looking for balance, he’d do well to look towards Arturo Vidal. The man is the perfect blend of athleticism, tough tackling and footballing nous. He can protect the back-four and provide The Red Devils will opportunities going forward. He could prove to be the last piece of Manchester United’s midfield jigsaw puzzle.
According to The Metro, Juventus would be willing to accept as little as £23m in return for Vidal (his price-tag seems to have dropped significantly since the summer). If this is true, Manchester United would be foolish to sit still. Better still, the aforementioned source claims that the player in question is keen on the move.
This could be a major piece of business on the part of Van Gaal and co. Arturo Vidal is good enough to put Manchester United back among the European elite. Let’s hope he’s given the chance to do exactly that.
