Should Arsenal cash-in on this prodigious Frenchman?

SanogoAlan Pardew recently offered up some interesting comments about the motivations of players whilst they’re out on loan. His thoughts are particularly intriguing given that Crystal Palace recently brought Arsenal star Yaya Sanogo into the club on a temporary basis. Here’s what he had to say:

‘I’m not trying to suggest that loan players are not as focused as your own. But I think as a manager you do look to your own players with a different kind of eye than loan players because it’s important that you develop them and strengthen them.’

‘We do have a loan player in Sanogo from Arsenal and we’re very lucky to have him and he’s fighting the cause for us in no uncertain terms. But I think if we had an opportunity where Sanogo could become our own player that would be even better.’ (Source: The Express)

I have to say, I think Alan Pardew is making a good point. I don’t think a player can truly perform at his best for a club unless he feels he belongs. Sure, he can do his best to impress, but there’s a good chance that his attentions will be divided and that he’ll continue to harbour goals and ambitions above and beyond helping out the club he’s currently playing for.

But I’m more interested in another question: should Arsenal consider letting Yaya Sanogo go on a permanent basis?

I’m sure that Sanogo would rather play for Arsenal on a permanent basis, but that may not be a realistic option for The Gunners. Arsenal can already rely upon strikers like Olivier Giroud (a deadly finisher), Danny Welbeck (a decent talent), Alexis Sanchez and even Theo Walcott. Arsene Wenger also seems to be a fan of 19-year-old Chuba Akpom. And let’s not forget that The Gunners have also loaned out Lukas Podolski and Joel Campbell.

There’s not enough room for Sanogo in this squad, even if he finds some form over the coming months.

In truth, Sanogo probably earned his move to Arsenal a little too early on in his career. The fact that he’s only scored once in 19 games for The Gunners is evidence of this. At this stage, Crystal Palace look like a good fit. They’ll provide him with regular action and a chance to re-build his career.

If he works hard, there’s a chance he’ll end up at another big club in a few years time. He could have the last laugh – he just needs to make smart decisions when it comes to his career.

What’s your take? What does the future hold for Yaya Sanogo?
