Aleksandar DragovicIt’s last orders in the January transfer window and everybody is waiting to see who The Red Devils are going to snap up. One thing’s clear: Louis Van Gaal needs to sign somebody. He can’t afford to persist with the options that he’s currently got.

After all, Manchester United have been weak defensively all season long. If they had a couple more top quality defenders they may well be ready to compete towards the top of the Premier League table once again.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Manchester United are on the ‘verge’ of signing Aleksandar Dragovic, Dinamo Kiev’s star defender. The source claims that the Austrian ace had been a target for Arsenal, but would prefer to move to Old Trafford. If Louis Van Gaal is keen, it looks like it shouldn’t be too difficult for his club to close the deal.

Manchester United are in a position where they could get one over on their old rivals and sign a top player. That strikes me as a win-win. Aleksandar Dragovic is currently rated at around £15m. That kind of figure shouldn’t be outside the bounds of The Red Devils’ financial reach.

The man in question has plenty of experience considering that he’s only 23-years-old. He developed at Austria Wien before moving to FC Basel in 2011. He made 77 appearances for the Swiss side, before earning a move to Dynamo Kiev last summer. He’s since made 35 appearances.

He’s also got 35 caps for his international team, which makes him experienced at every level of the game. Given his physique, mentality and strength in the air, I’d argue that he’d be a good fit for the Premier League. More importantly, he’s still developing and improving. There’s a chance that he could blossom into a truly world-class talent.

Which that in mind, perhaps he is worth the investment?

What’s your take? Should The Red Devils be in the market for Aleksandar Dragovic?
