How much longer can Spurs keep hold of Hugo Lloris?

Tottenham Hotspur v Sunderland - Barclays Premier LeagueSpurs are a funny old club. They’ve got a squad that’s full of passengers, but they’ve also got some genuinely world-class talent. Take for instance, their nippy, technically gifted Danish midfielder, Christian Eriksen. Consider, also, Harry Kane, a young forward with a wealth of potential. Both players would march straight into pretty much any starting XI in Europe.

But we won’t be focusing on either of them for this article. Instead, we’ll be looking at Hugo Lloris, a goalkeeper with a genuine claim to be the best in his position in the world.

Given Tottenham’s lack of Champions League action, it’s always struck me as a little odd that he’s hung around at White Hart Lane for as long as he has. In fact, he’s now been with the club since 2012, that’s almost three years in total. His manager seems to recognise this difficulty:

‘He is one of the best keepers in the world – his contribution has been amazing. He is very happy with us. It is very difficult for a club to get him in because he is happy here. People keep saying he wants to play in the Champions League. Well, maybe he can do that with Tottenham.’ (Source: The Metro)

Lloris is famous for his positioning (no other keeper in world football reads the game like he does, not even Manuel Neuer), his lightning quick reflexes and his ability in one-on-one situations. He’s faced some big challenges during his time with Spurs, but he usually manages to find a way to come through unscathed. The fact that he’s managed to maintain his reputation whilst at White Hart Lane is rather telling.

If Spurs want to keep him for another year, they’ll probably have to give him some meaningful action in Europe. Unfortunately, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Southampton all looking good for a top four slot, it’s not going to be easy.

Luckily they’ve got a man between the sticks who can help them to meet this goal. Maybe Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane can do the rest? We live in hope.

What’s your take? How important is Hugo Lloris to Spurs? What does the future hold for him?

He’s very important of course. But if he was to go we should ask for a Kings Ransom and buy
a genuinely world class striker to complement Harry Kane.

Hello I am a Arsenal fan and I disagree with you. I have to admit that tottenham are better then us and they have good players such as Kane and Lloris and they are a quality club, so I don’t see any reason for Lloris to move team because he enjoys playing at tottenham.

Stop trying to stir us trouble! Where would Lloris go exactly? It’s currently not clear to me who will finish the season top 4 – besides he’s much better off playing as captain of spurs and seeing plenty of action! With Hart, DeGea and Cortois in the big 3 there’s no obvious place for him, as for arse well he wants to stay with winners doesn’t he?

I cannot stand this type of journalism Hugo has said that he is happy at Spurs all you are doing is trying to make a problem when there is not one.
I agree that Hugo is one of the best if not the best keeper in the Premiership and that if we are going to be one of the best then we need to keep our best players not sell them, I just hope that Mr Levy reads this
