Could Manchester United win this major £20m transfer battle?

ReusThe Bundesliga table is reading pretty funny at the moment. Take a look. You’ll see that Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich’s only real competition for the last half-decade or so, are currently in 18th place. Or, as it’s also known, last place. They’ve got 16 points, which is 30 points fewer than league leaders Bayern Munich. What has happened to this once great side?

Whilst Jurgen Klopp’s boys have looked pretty handy in the Champions League (they handed Arsenal a whooping earlier on in the season), their domestic form has been lousy. Mats Hummels seems to have been suffering a long-term World Cup hang-over, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is wasteful and they miss Robert Lewandowski. They miss him a whole bunch.

If things continue along this path and Dortmund do end up getting relegated, there are going to be a whole host of decent players available in the next transfer window. Yes, Klopp’s side has plenty of passengers in it, but this is a team that made it to a Champions League final not so long ago. There’s some absolute gems among this collection.

But Dortmund’s crown jewel is Marco Reus, who’s one of the best wingers in world football. Even as his side has struggled this season, the German ace has continued to produce the goods. In 12 games this year, he’s found the back of the net 6 times. He’s now played 102 times for Dortmund and he’s scored 48 times. The man is a force of nature.

This brings me to an article that was recently published by The Metro. The source suggests that Reus is ‘almost certain to leave once the season ends’ and notes that he could be available for as little as £20m. That’s a huge bargain given the man’s quality.

They line-up Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG, Arsenal and Chelsea as potential suitors, but suggest that Manchester United will be first in line. That’s great news for The Red Devils, who could use a little more quality in this area of the pitch.

I certainly wouldn’t be too sad to see Louis Van Gaal and co. profit from Borussia Dortmund’s misfortunes. I’d love to see Marco Reus strut his stuff in the Premier League. He’s hoping that he doesn’t end up in La Liga.

What’s your take? Where will Marco Reus end up?
