Yaya ToureHere’s a rumour I didn’t expect to see any time soon: according to The Express, Liverpool could be in the market for Manchester City’s midfield maestro, Yaya Toure. That’s right, the same Toure who is widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s best midfielders. The same Yaya Toure who is almost indispensable for City (just look at how average they were without him when Arsenal came to visit).

Suffice to say, it seems a little difficult to envision him in a Liverpool shirt. Next season, The Reds could feasibly not be able to call upon Steven Gerrard, but they may well have Yaya Toure among their ranks. What a topsy-turvy world we live in.

These rumours have sprung up following Toure’s comments whilst on international duty with the Ivory Coast for the African Cup of Nations. When asked if he wanted to stay at The Etihad, he responded: ‘That’s a big question and that’s an easy question as well, and you have an easy answer – we’ll see.’

When he was asked whether he’d stay with Manchester City, he responded: ‘I don’t know. I’m at City at the moment’. (Source: The Express)

This has led the same source to suggest that Paris Saint Germain, Chelsea, Manchester United and yes, Liverpool are all keen to seal a deal for Yaya. What’s more, they slap a £20m price-tag on him. If he’s really available for this kind of price, then these clubs could be set for a bargain.

At 31-years-old, he’s too old to be considered a replacement for Steven Gerrard. If he were to move to Anfield, he’d probably only hang around for three or four years max. In other words, Brendan Rodgers would still need to find a long-term option.

But in the short-term, I can’t think of a better option than Yaya Toure. He’s one of the Premier League’s best and he could help to take Liverpool to the next level.

Still, it’s a little difficult to see him moving on from Manchester City any time soon. Manuel Pellegrini wont want to let him go without a fight. It’ll be interesting to see if Brendan Rodgers is ready and willing to put his boxing gloves on.

What’s your take? Should The Reds really attempt to sign Yaya Toure?
