Could Manchester United really be on the verge of this £150m deal?

BaleIt’s always been a little difficult to believe there could be truth to the following rumours, but they won’t stop popping up. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire, right?

I’m referring, of course, to Manchester United’s continued interest in Gareth Bale. That’s right, the same Gareth Bale who set the Premier League alight during his time at White Hart Lane. Whilst the Welsh Wizard was at Tottenham, he proved week-in and week-out that he’s one of the most exciting players in world football.

This was enough to earn a big money move to Real Madrid two summers ago. Since then, he hasn’t looked back. He’s gone from strength-to-strength and he’s now proved that he’s capable of producing the goods at the top level (and in the shadow of some pretty major talent – in particular, I’m thinking of Cristiano Ronaldo). The man is the real deal.

As such, I can see why Manchester United would be interested. Who wouldn’t want Gareth Bale in their side? But could The Red Devils close a deal for this Real Madrid star? I’m not so sure.

Why would Carlo Ancelotti want to get rid of a player who has scored 33 goals in 68 games? That sounds like a pretty useful footballer to me. It would take a bid of mammoth proportions convince him to cash-in.

As it happens, it looks like Manchester United are prepared to go the distance. The Metro recently reported that United are preparing a £150m bid for Gareth Bale (wow!). What’s more, the source suggests that Madrid are prepared to accept the offer and are ready to sign Marco Reus as a replacement.

If this deal were to go ahead (and that’s a pretty bid ‘if’ at the moment), it would be yet further evidence of how broken football is at the moment (from a financial stand-point). From Manchester United’s point-of-view, however, it would be a genuine statement of intent. It would put them back in the big time and then some.

It’s going to be interesting to watch this one play out.

What’s your take? Could The Red Devils really be in the market for Gareth Bale?
