Malcolm SilvaEvery now and then a Brazilian starlet comes along who captures the imagination of the masses and starts to earn links to big Premier League clubs, or the two big Spanish clubs. The European elite all get excited at the very possibility that they may have found the next Ronaldhino, the next Kaka or the next Neymar.

Most of these youngsters don’t go on to fulfill their potential (just look at how Lucas Moura’s career has slowed down at Paris Saint Germain), but some do end up hitting it big. That’s why big clubs continue to monitor South America in the hope that they’ll find the next big thing.

There are a few clubs who are monitoring players like Bernard and Lucas Silva, but the real prize at the moment is Malcolm Silva, who currently plays for Corinthians. The 17-year-old has been labelled the ‘next Neymar’. Naturally enough, this is going to place a of pressure on his shoulders. He’s got a lot to live up to.

When you consider that he’s only made 25 professional appearances in his career, it’s worth noting that it would be foolish to get over excited just yet. Still, reports from Brazil suggest that Silva has it all: pace, technique and footballing nous. When he adds some end product to his game, he’s going to be a serious threat.

According to The Express, three Premier League clubs are interested in Silva: Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal. If Jose Mourinho is interested then there’s a good chance that he’ll end up at Stamford Bridge (as The Blues have the money and the reputation at the moment).

Still, I hope Louis Van Gaal pitches in and tries to tempt the youngster to move to Old Trafford. With The Red Devils struggling at the moment they’d do well to look to the future and to try and find somebody who can spark their midfield into life. With players like Michael Carrick getting on in years and Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini proving to be remarkably inconsistent, signing somebody like Silva looks like a smart move.

Let’s just hope that Jose Mourinho stays clear of this one.

What’s your take? Where does Malcolm Silva’s future lie?
