Ogenyi OnaziBrendan Rodgers has his work cut out for him during the January transfer window. His squad is in a state of disarray, but he’s not going to have a huge amount of money to spend.

He brought in a lot of new players during the summer, but the great majority of them have struggled to make a meaningful impact. I think it’s fair to say that The Reds could use at least one new player in all three major areas of the pitch (oh and they probably need a new goalkeeper too).

It’s going to be interesting to see what business Rodgers conducts. Can he pull off some of the bargain signings that he made when he first joined The Reds?

This leads me onto The Express‘s claim that Liverpool still have their sights set on signing Lazio’s midfield battler, Ogenyi Onazi. The source suggests that The Reds are ready to offer the Serie A side £8m and Fabio Borini in return for the Nigerian international.

Brendan Rodgers was linked with a move to Onazi throughout the summer, but a deal never materialised. In the end, he signed Emre Can, who is another rugged midfield dynamo. I would have thought that this would have ended Liverpool’s interest in Ogenyi, but apparently not. Rodgers must really like this particular youngster.

The 22-year-old has a decent amount of experience for a player of his age. He’s played 53 professional games for Lazio and he’s got 26 caps for the Nigerian international side. He’s known for his combative displays, his boundless energy, tough tackling and disciplined, diligent performances. I personally think that he’d represent a major step up over the likes of Emre Can and Lucas Leiva. He’d add some major industry to Liverpool’s midfield.

Still, it looks like he isn’t going to come cheap. Brendan Rodgers needs to assess his priorities and decide whether this is the best use of the club’s money. If he decides to go ahead with the move, then who are we to question him?

What’s your take? Would you like to see Ogenyi Onazi at Anfield?

Liverpool is loosing because they are not playing high tempo attacking football. bR is to blame and punished and not the players. All money spent on players is gone down the drain. Bad purchases and bad tactics this season.
