BusquetsYou never know quite what you’re gonna get when you turn up to an Arsenal game nowadays. They’re capable of some quite wonderful performances, but they’re also more than capable of the occasional stinker. What’s more, the level of their performance often doesn’t correspond with the result. Case in point: last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool. This is a game that Arsene Wenger’s boys really should have lost, but they managed to carve out a result, somehow, some way.

The problems with Arsenal’s squad are clear for just about everyone to see. They’ve got enough attacking personnel, but they’re perilously weak at the back. This, combined with their midfield injury crisis, has held the club back in a major way. Is it any wonder that The Gunners are struggling to find any degree of consistency?

With all this in mind, I was interested to see that Barcelona may be prepared to let their midfield maestro, Sergio Busquests, go in the near future (Source: The Metro). The Spaniard is a player that opposition teams tend to hate, but there’s no doubting that he’s one of the most generous, effective players in world football. More than that, however, he strikes me as exactly the kind of man that The Gunners need.

He’s a tall, competitive, defensive midfielder who works extremely hard, nips into tackles, controls possession and breaks up play whenever necessary. Remember all those occasions when Arsenal were unable to see out a game? There’s a good chance that they’d have done a better job, had they had a player like Sergio Busquets running the midfield. As things currently stand, Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini just aren’t up to snuff.

The aforementioned source even notes that Busquets ‘may be willing to look for a new challenge elsewhere’, after struggling to adapt to Luis Enrique’s managerial style. Perhaps we’ll finally get to see the Spanish battler in the Premier League? If that happens to be in an Arsenal shirt then all the better still.

What’s your take? Could Sergio Busquets be the answer for The Gunners?
