Gareth Bale (Real Madrid)Since moving to Real Madrid, Gareth Bale has had an opportunity to prove to the rest of the world exactly how good he is. Us Premier League fans knew that he was one of the best in the game quite some time ago, now we’ve been able to share the love.

I’m sure that Spurs fans miss him, but their loss has proven to be Real Madrid’s gain. Since moving to The Bernabeu, he’s found the back of the net 31 times in 64 games – that’s a fantastic return for a winger (especially one playing in Cristiano Ronaldo’s shadow). When you compare that to the 55 goals he got in 203 game for Spurs, the improvements he’s made to his game in recent years are quite apparent.

Bale’s ball control, physical fitness, technical ability and direct attacking nature is more or less unmatched in the game. Is it any wonder that Real Madrid were willing to spend £85.3m on him? Is it any real surprise that Manchester United are still getting linked to him?

The Express claim that Real Madrid are hoping to sign both Marco Reus and Sergio Aguero (Manchester City may have something to say about that), which in turn might give ‘Bale itchy feet’. The source also suggests that Manchester United are lining up an £88m bid for the Welsh wizard.

There’s very little about that last paragraph that’s believable, but it’s still difficult not to get excited at the prospect of seeing Bale return back to the Premier League, however unlikely that eventuality may be.

At 25-years-old, Bale is just about to enter the peak years of his footballing career (that’s a scary thought). Wouldn’t it be something if he were to do this in a Manchester United shirt?

Of course, The Red Devils spent a lot of money in the summer, so there’s a good chance that they don’t have enough left over to sign a player that’s as expensive as Gareth Bale would be (especially given Louis Van Gaal’s need to fix his defense).

Still, that won’t stop me from crossing my fingers. What a step forward this would be for Manchester United.

What’s your take? Could The Red Devils really wrap up a deal for Gareth Bale?
