CavaniDanny Welbeck has made a quick impact at Arsenal, but his goals have rather dried up in recent times. His hat-trick against Galatasaray suggested that he would be a regular threat for The Gunners. Instead it’s Alexis Sanchez whose been most dangerous for his team going forward. He seems to naturally know where to position himself in order to get goals.

Does Danny Welbeck have this same goal-scoring nous? I’m not so sure. At the very least it’s up for debate.

Arsene Wenger will know the answer to this question better than anybody else. No doubt this knowledge will help him to make decisions during the January transfer window.

This brings me to The Metro‘s shock claim that Paris Saint Germain are ready to ‘accept’ an Arsenal bid for Edinson Cavani. That’s right, if this source is to be believed, one of the best strikers in world football could be on his way to The Emirates.

If that doesn’t drag them back into contention, I don’t know what will (barring a much improved back-four, of course).

Cavani will likely prove to be considerably more effective than the likes of Welbeck or Lukas Podolski. The thought of him playing alongside Alexis Sanchez is somewhat mouth-watering.

Just look at his goal-scoring statistics. At Napoli, he grabbed 104 goals in 138 games. Since moving to Paris, he’s found the back of the net 38 times in 65 games (despite sometimes being forced out wide to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic). He truly is a force of nature.

He’s also physically tough and he’s got an excellent work-rate, so it strikes me that he’s an great fit for the Premier League.

The aforementioned source claims that he could cost as much as £50m. Quality doesn’t come cheap, does it? Still, I can’t wait to see him in an Arsenal shirt. I very much hope that this deal is as far along as the papers want us to believe.

What’s your take? Could Arsenal really be about to close a deal for Edinson Cavani?
