Sign Barcelona duo Tello and MontoyaFor a long time now, there’s been a growing dissatisfaction among Liverpool fans when it comes to Glen Johnson. The English right-back used to be one of the best attacking full-backs in the world. Now he’s only producing diminishing returns.

With The Reds also struggling in other areas of the pitch this season, it looks like Brendan Rodgers will need to fix this issue sooner rather than later. He simply can’t afford to bide his time and hope that things get better.

Rodgers has tried out so many different formations this season, but nothing seems to come off. Sometimes all you need is a chance in personnel.

This brings me to Liverpool’s continued interest in Barcelona’s up and coming right-back, Martin Montoya. In fact, The Metro suggest that The Reds are ‘finally’ set to ‘clinch’ the Spaniard during the January transfer window.

With Alberto Moreno down one side and Martin Montoya down the other side, The Reds would have plenty of attacking endeavour down the flanks. I’m not sure that these two would deliver the defensive solidarity that Brendan Rodgers needs, but this is something that the team can work on over time.

Montoya has been at the Nou Camp since 2010, but he’s always been on the fringe of Barcelona’s team. Last season he made 19 appearances for the Spanish powerhouse. This season he’s only got 1 appearance to his name. I’m sure that he’d jump at the opportunity for some regular action.

He’s 23-years-old now and he really should be playing as much as possible.

The aforementioned source suggests that Montoya could be available for as little as £8m. That’s a decent price for somebody with so much talent and ability. It’s also considerably less than was spent on Alberto Moreno.

In a way, it’ll be sad to see Glen Johnson leave Liverpool. Yet this doesn’t change the fact that it’s a necessary step for the club. If they want to push forward and start challenging for silverware, then Brendan Rodgers needs to spring into action.

What’s your take? Would Martin Montoya be a good addition to this Liverpool side?

We need players with plenty of pace in all positions, I believe this is a major problem both in defence and midfield . The likes of Glen cannot keep up or sustain a high tempo of play, ( he is not alone , Lambert, Balotelli & even Stevie G seem to be struggling with pace of the game. £8 million sounds reasonable but can Montoya mix it with the best of them in the premiership. Personally can’t wait for Flanagan to return.
